Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)

Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)
Endovascular Aneurysm Repair

Minimally Invasive Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins

At Warwickshire Vascular Clinic, we offer Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) – a highly effective, minimally invasive procedure for treating varicose veins. Under the expert care of Mr. Devaraj, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, you can expect a precise, modern approach with excellent outcomes and minimal downtime.

What is EVLA?

Endovenous Laser Ablation is a safe and advanced treatment that uses targeted laser energy to close off faulty veins. By sealing the affected vein, blood flow is naturally redirected to healthier veins, relieving symptoms and improving appearance.

This procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and typically completed within an hour. It is an excellent alternative to traditional vein surgery and is recommended for patients with larger or symptomatic varicose veins.

Key Benefits of EVLA:

  • Minimally invasive – no need for general anaesthesia or large incisions

  • Quick recovery – return to normal activities within 24-48 hours

  • High success rate – long-lasting relief from symptoms

  • Cosmetically appealing – no scarring, minimal bruising

  • Outpatient procedure – walk in, walk out the same day

Who is EVLA Suitable For?

EVLA is suitable for patients who:

  • Have visible varicose veins

  • Experience symptoms such as aching, heaviness, or swelling in the legs

  • Have been diagnosed with venous reflux via Duplex Ultrasound

During your consultation, Mr. Devaraj will carry out a detailed clinical examination and ultrasound scan to confirm suitability.

The EVLA Procedure – What to Expect

  1. Ultrasound Mapping: The affected vein is located and marked using a Duplex Ultrasound scan.

  2. Local Anaesthetic: A numbing solution is injected around the vein.

  3. Laser Fibre Insertion: A thin laser fibre is guided into the vein through a small puncture.

  4. Laser Activation: The laser energy is delivered to seal the vein from the inside.

  5. Post-Treatment Care: Compression stockings are applied, and patients are encouraged to walk immediately.

Aftercare & Recovery

  • Compression stockings are worn for 1-2 weeks

  • Normal activities can usually be resumed within 24-48 hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise and hot baths for a short period

  • Follow-up may include ultrasound to confirm vein closure
